Elephants This was our second visit to the Okavango Delta of Botswana. The annual flooding had not yet occurred and the landscape was mostly dry with a few small watering holes populated by hippos and crocodiles. Other wildlife we saw included cheetah, zebra, and elephant, as well as leopard, lion, wild dog, and birds, which can be seen in the galleries below. Fire had burned large areas of the land and was still burning during our visit.

Leopards are often illusive. When you are fortunate enough to see one, you appreciate how fantastically beautiful they are.

Leopard

Lion Male and female lion, as well as lion cubs, were around and active. Just before departing, we saw a lion kill a warthog.

We saw packs of wild dogs, one had more than a dozen of these skillful and ferocious hunters.

Birds The Okavango Delta is famous for its birds, and we were not disappointed by the number and variety of what we saw.
