Kasbah in the palmeraie of Skoura Most of the southern portion of Morocco is rocky desert transitioning as you travel farther south into the characteristic sand dunes of the Sahara Desert. There are small fertile areas with groves of palm trees and a very high snow capped mountain range. Along the Atlantic coast is the town of Essaouira.

North of the high mountains lies Marrakech. Day and night its large medina bustles with activity. You can not help but get the impression that not much has changed here in a long time as you see work being done by hand, pushcarts being used to transport loads and display items for sale, vendors standing in the streets and alleys servicing customers, and animals towing carriages and carts. We also visited Casablanca on our way home.
